YMCA Newcastle are sad to announce the closure of our SPACE2… youth centre.
In the eight years since we opened the centre we have loved working with all the young people that have come through our doors and supporting you all to become fantastic independent young adults. On average 1,250 young people visited SPACE2… every year, over 35,000 in total, for support, help, advice and to develop their skills.
YMCA Newcastle is a charity and we get our income to run this service from donations and grants. It has been more and more difficult to raise the funding for youth work every year for the last 10 years and unfortunately we can sadly no longer afford to operate SPACE2… Because of the current threat of Coronavirus we have made the difficult decision to close SPACE2… immediately.
We want to take this opportunity to thank Tom, Maxine, Duane and all of the other dedicated Youth Workers who have been a part of the SPACE2… family over the years, and especially YOU, the young people that made SPACE2… what it was.
We would also like to thank all of the volunteers that have donated their time to SPACE2…, and the funders who have supported the centre over the past 8 years.
