Neil Jackson (Chair of Trustees) and Charlotte Pearson (CEO) YMCA Newcastle

YMCA Newcastle is pleased to announce the appointment of Charlotte Pearson as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Charlotte succeeds Jeff Hurst, who retired in April 2026 after nearly 17 years of dedicated service to the charity.

Charlotte brings 18 years’ senior leadership experience across the charity and public sectors. Her previous roles include Head of Alumni Engagement at Newcastle University, Chief Operating Officer of Wag & Company North East Friendship Dogs, and Deputy CEO and Interim CEO of Tynedale Hospice at Home in Northumberland. Most recently, Charlotte has been running a consultancy business supporting charities across the North East with fundraising and interim leadership support.

Throughout her career, Charlotte has worked with a wide range of organisations and governance structures, including regulated health charities, children’s bereavement services and small grassroots organisations. Income generation has been a core focus of her roles, encompassing corporate partnerships, commercial opportunities and sustainable fundraising models.

Charlotte said:

“I particularly enjoy working with organisations that are deeply embedded in their communities and where we can make a real difference. It is a privilege to be joining YMCA Newcastle and working with such a dedicated staff team and ambitious Board. I look forward to building on the YMCA’s strong foundations to strengthen our youth programmes and services so we can reach even more young people across our community.”

Neil Jackson, Chair of the YMCA Newcastle Board, said:

“This is an exciting time for YMCA Newcastle, particularly as we open our new youth centre in Walker, East Newcastle. Charlotte brings a wealth of experience, strong strategic leadership and a deep understanding of income generation and community‑based services. The Board is delighted to welcome her as our new CEO as the organisation enters its next chapter. We are also extremely grateful to Jeff for his 17 years of commitment and leadership and wish him every happiness in his retirement.”
