The Tyne and Wear High Sheriff Award Scheme makes awards to organisations that encourage useful and beneficial pursuits for young people, encouraging them to be upstanding citizens.
The Walker Project applied for an award from the High Sheriffs Award towards a sailing trip for 10 young people. They have already secured £2000 in donations towards the trip which will see them battling rain and wind on a 3 day sailing voyage accross the North Sea. The trip will be a challenging experience for the young people who will be responsible for all tasks onboard including; sailing the ship, preparing meals, cleaning and all other tasks on deck. During their trip the young people taking part will gain skills in team work, initiative, resilience, leadership and peer-learning.
The group will be making up the rest of the amount need for the trip by taking part in community bag-packs at local supermarkets and making and selling key rings and glitter tattoos at local events.
We would like to thank the Tyne and Wear High Sheriff Award Scheme and Tyne & Wear and Northumberland Community Foundation for their support.
